Very informative on an unsexy topic. One cool thing re: Cumberland stems is that they don’t sour or get stained, but as noted, it’s a matter of preference.

I share your feelings, Arko. It seems to me that, in a very unexpected way, many continental europeans from our generation tend to think more britishly than british themselves… too many BBC and Thames television shows during our youth, I guess.

Agreed Chris. The vendetta on tobacco and how our pipe tobacco and cigars are being lumped into the cigarette and chewing tobacco is offensive imo.

A fine and thoughtful piece. The analogy to dog breeds is right on.
The FDA’s Twitter account on tobacco, @FDATobacco, should be followed so one can see just how hardcore and humorless they are on this topic. Regulation is one thing, but there is a vendetta against tobacco here–they regulate fast food, too, but they don’t crow about banning it while using near-libelous language. It’s a dismaying account, but important.
